Season 2024/25 ticket pricing – YOUR VIEWS NEEDED

Nottingham Forest Supporters’ Trust (NFST) is affiliated to the Football Supporters Association (FSA) and at a recent meeting with the Premier League, 2024/25 ticket prices were discussed. Amongst the groups present there was increasing concern about the dual action of both significant price rises and the removal of concessions as clubs target greater revenue.

NFST members may have seen the recent FSA statement on this; Spurs and Arsenal ticket price hikes – fan groups hit back – Football Supporters’ Association (thefsa.org.uk)

Prior to this season, NFST was proactively involved in consultation with Nottingham Forest Football Club to share with the club our member viewpoints of the proposed pricing, and having had sight of the details, then submitted detailed document of feedback, questions seeking clarification and recommendations.

NFST recognises and applauds the fact that the current ownership has kept price rises below the inflation rate for several years and that resulting ticket prices for 2023/24 still makes attending football at the City Ground amongst the cheapest in the Premier League, but is concerned that the action of other clubs may make “higher than inflation” price rises and the removal / change of concessions to become the “norm”.

We are encouraged by the recent formation of the Fan Advisory Board and understand that 2024/25 ticket prices will be discussed through this body and input sought from the constituents of that group. As a formal membership body, NFST wish to be fully prepared for these discussions and so welcome in advance the thoughts and comments of our members along with considerations from the wider fan base.

Other clubs are actively implementing and discussing above-inflation prices rises, the removal of senior concessions completely, the tightening of young and youth concessions, increasing the age of senior seasoncards to come in at 66 or higher, not 65 and the removal of cup games from season cards but no reduction in cost. As members what are your expectations of 2024/25 season card prices?

NFST understands that the club needs to attract more revenue, particularly in the light of FFP/PSR concerns, but believes that whilst increasing ticket prices by 2%, 5% or 10%, this makes slight difference to their overall income but can make a stark difference to members, fans, and supporters. Everyone is aware of the cost of living and many football fans are having to make real choices about how and where they spend their money.

There is also increasing publicity about the power of football and community to have a positive effect on mental health and the general welfare of supporters, some of whom go to games as an escape from the day-to-day. Forest’s recent activities in this area are exemplary and demonstrate their support for fans’ mental health.

Forest have always been different, been trendsetters, rebels even, and NFST is keen to provide input to support ticket price changes that will continue to put our fans first and continue to build that supportive environment and community effect the club value so highly.
